History and Philosophy
Not everyone has the time to get nerdy about their religion. However, for those who crave a philosophical, historical, and cultural understanding of Satanism, this is the place to be.
Philosophy
- Evil Bible
- Maybe you just don’t get why anyone would side with Satan instead of God. Isn’t Satan, like... the bad guy? Clearly, these Satanists need to read their Bibles! Well, we do, and we’ve got some critiques. Explore this website to find out why some people read the Bible and see God as a horrible tyrant, instead of a savior.
-

A Satanist Reads the Bible (podcast)

History
- Satanism: A Reader by Per Faxneld and John Nilsson
- Sadly, this is a book we can’t provide for free, though we highly suggest picking up a copy if you can. Satanism: A Reader is an excellent scholarly exploration of Satanism throughout history, using the examination of various Satanic texts.
- Children of Lucifer: The Origins of Modern Religious Satanism by Ruben van Luijk
- Another book that’s well worth tracking down for yourself. Children of Lucifer is a rich academic text delving as far as possible back into the history of Satanism and building a case for how and why modern religious Satanism emerged. In a religion where our origins are often obscured and distorted, a book like this is invaluable.
- The Church of Satan by Michael Aquino
- Though his account has raised some critiques and questions, Michael Aquino’s book on the history of the Church of Satan will enrich anyone’s understanding of Satanism’s first formally established church.
- Satan’s Silence: Ritual Abuse and the Making of a Modern American Witch Hunt by Debbie Nathan and Michael Snedeker
- Satan’s Silence was hailed as the first book to really crack open the mystery of the Satanic ritual abuse scare that swept across America, exposing that not only were Satanists not to blame, but that the abuse itself had never taken place. A must-read for anyone who wonders where all those stories of child abuse and animal sacrifice came from.
- Satanic Feminism: Lucifer as the Liberator of Women in Nineteenth-Century Culture by Per Faxneld
- If you’re searching for a feminist reading of Satanic thought, look no further than Per Faxneld’s masterpiece. An excellent blend of historical and philosophical exploration, this text delves into the question of how Satanism responds to patriarchy.
